This is how the day went: Part 1

October 19, 2008

By 7.30am Adam and I were down at the Town Square where the book launch was being held, with gloves, buckets, scrubbing brushes and brooms to clean up the mess.

The place I picked the hold the book launch is a nice location, with a fountain nearby and shade, and is a busy thoroughfare to pick up all the passersby. Unfortunately, it is also a magnet for Friday night revellers, the local youth. So we spent a while cleaning up their litter – the empty beer bottles, Red Bull cans, and greasy hot chip containers.

So with me worrying about getting the place up to scratch, not having slept properly in say – oh – a week by the end I was starting to get quite nervous about the impending function.

Until, that is, Adam and I slipped off to have a quiet coffee and discussed another one of our problems – the rats are back .

Me: “What do we DO?! Get a cat?”

Adam: “What good would it do inside? It’d have to live in the roof.”

Me: “Yes! We could get a gimp cat. Like in Pulp Fiction, but cat style. Have him up there, doing our evil will all dressed up with a little mask over his face. He’d get all down and serious on those stupid rodents. We could think of a dozen puns and dirty entendres based upon the word ‘pussy’.”

Adam: (Looks at me strangely)

Adam: I think you’ve truly gone bonkers.

Indeed, but later that day whenever I got nervous (which wasn’t often – I was too busy) I just thought of our imaginary gimp kitty and it made me smile. Does this make me strange? Perhaps. Then again, I’ve never pretended to be normal, really!

{I’ll write the rest of this re-cap when I’ve got the energy. Thanks all for your well wishes}

I was thinking of you and hoping that your weather was as nice as ours was yesterday.

And I’m sure the cat would find a way to get into the roof somehow. God knows ours did (and now all our mice are dead. DEAD I TELL YOU!)

He he, “gimp cat” – I’ll have to tell Ben about this one, I think you and he have the same sense of humour sometimes. Personally, I agree with Adam, maybe you need to go on a holiday now that the book launch is over, say somewhere up my way, incorporating your birthday party… ;)

Heh. My lazy cats didn’t do anything about my mouse problem in my other house. THe mice here can’t get in the house so they live in the glove compartment of the car. Nice. Good luck.
