We’ll all be speaking at next month’s Melbourne Writers Festival.
The program isn’t officially launched until next week and my spot isn’t 100% set yet, but it looks like I will be on Sunday 31st August in the evening at the Festival Club (ACMI). I will be doing a reading of some of my work (not sure which yet – I’ll keep you posted) and have general question and answer time at the end.
I can’t deny I was sort of dumbstruck when I was asked; because I’m currently rather knocked about with some sort of chest infection and I had to check and double-check whether the invitation was a hallucination. Nope, it wasn’t.
So after a little celebratory boogie, I took myself back to bed, where I snuggled with a hot water bottle and a vicks-smeared handkerchief and thought of 100 different ways in Which I Was Not To Embarrass Myself Or My Family at the festival.
#1 – Don’t make the mistake like I did at the Emerging Writers’ Festival and wear a wrap-around-tied satin top which gapes dangerously at the front if it loosens in the slightest.
Hope to see some of you there!
*I realise it might seem a tad out-RAGE-ous! that I should mention myself in the same sentence as those other two literary giants. Also, please, realise I agree wholeheartedly. I just couldn’t help myself – and I bet you’d do the same in my place

Yay for you and well deserved
I loved David Sedaris’ book “Me Talk Pretty One Day”, and his sister is a hoot.

Wow, that’s so exciting, I feel like I know someone famous
Try not to stress too much about it, you’ve had some practice now so it shouldn’t be as scary as your first “public appearances”…
Hope you are feeling better soon, although your warm cosy bed was probably the best place to be today in Melbourne – it was bad enough up here!!
I love David too, I’ll be seeing him (shall I ask for a speakers pass to access all areas free?!)
M – tish-posh, m’dear. You’ll always be the one who won the major English prize in Year 12 over me (I don’t forget those things
)
Yes – fracking freezing too
That’s awesome. Try to get to meet David Sedaris- I like his work although I am a bigger fan of his sister Amy.
Kudos for the prestige of the festival!
Congrats, Karen! And please don’t sell yourself short. You’re a fantastically gifted writer.
Also, could you let me know if David’s brother, Rooster, shows up? Heh. Those are some of my favorite Sedaris stories.
You’re in good company. Hope you get some pics!

YES, JLP, this time I will most definately take my camera!
Bravo! Or I guess Brava! And you’d better believe I would have written the sentence exactly the same way if it were me.
