Going green ideas

January 28, 2008

I read recently that the average microwave, used as an ‘average’ microwave might during the day, uses more power to work the digital clocks (that most have) than it does to heat the food you put in it.

So ask yourself – do I need this clock? Or can I  turn it off at the powerpoint between uses and save that bit of energy?

I do now.

******

Thursday is one of my washing days. The other is Monday. (This is on a very good week). So last Thursday I went in both the kid’s rooms to collect their dirty stuff.

Nothing.

They had no dirty clothes.

Unbelievable.

Then I remembered for the past three days, due to typical summer weather, they’d been nude most of the time anyway.

So there’s another tip for you:

Go Green? Go nude!

Good plan, I like it. Don’t think my teenagers are going to take it up, but I remember with a smile, when even in winter, I couldn’t keep clothes on them.

I always turn my microwave off between uses. I have another clock in the kitchen that uses a AA battery. Another way to not have so much washing is to keep your kid in bathers the whole time.

ROFLOL – interesting money and time saving tip that nude one!!!!

My microwave powerpoint is behind the microwave (in it’s own little hutch) so impossible to get to….. very frustrating. I NEVER set the clock though – does that count???? (shows less numbers).

Even better Green tip- we chucked the microwave years ago ;)
Nude is good but my neighbours might suffer from fainting fits if I followed suit ;)

Lightening, yes, I can see how that would be a problem. I am lucky with ours! :)

I haven’t uncovered (literally?!) any clandestine nudists out there yet? Oh well, the day’s only half over ;)

Less clothes = less washing = less work = less water = less energy. I think you’re on to something! Though, as Joh says, I don’t know that the teenagers would go for it…

Thanks for the microwave tip. I didn’t know that one.

Yes– naked babies do indeed help save the whales.
I have 3 year old twins who truly believe clothing is an optional part of their day.
